Apple Music’s Home Session features reimagined signature songs and thoughtful covers and today, South African Afrikaans pop trio Rooksein release their own stripped down versions.
“It was quite special for us, building a song from a basic raw sound is very powerful because it gives you a lot of leverage as to where the song can go and what you can do with it creatively,” Rooksein tells Apple Music. “We normally write our songs from a very raw and stripped-down stage and then add on when the melodic and lyrical foundation of the song is laid out.”
The Home Session EP, available to stream on Apple Music in Spatial Audio, will feature two exclusive unplugged tracks from the Afrikaans pop trio including the two smash singles “10 Uit 10” and “Damlelielief” off their debut album, Die Onbekende, as well as a cover of The Cranberries iconic single, “Zombie”.
“The reason we chose these songs of ours is purely because both '10 Uit 10’ and ‘Damlelielief’ had the ability to sound amazing in a stripped-down acoustic version. ’10 Uit 10’ is also our latest single that we released. We chose ‘Zombie’ as our cover because we’ve been playing this song live from the beginning of our musical journey and wanted to record something in English,” they explain.
Since releasing “Damlelielief” in 2021, the Potchefstroom-based band have developed a loyal fanbase with their relevant lyrics, catchy melodies and captivating performances, growing in leaps and bounds with each and every release.
