Showmax announces Unfollowed S2

Unfollowed, one of the top 10 most-watched local titles on Showmax in 2023, is back for a gripping second season, premiering on Wednesday, 27 November 2024. Now hosted by broadcaster Spitch Nzwawumbi, the Showmax Original explores the impact of cancel culture on South African celebrities, examining the controversies that have shaped their public and private lives.

The season opener features reality star and businesswoman Mel Viljoen, known from The Real Housewives of Pretoria. Viljoen's career took a turbulent turn due to allegations surrounding her business, Tammy Taylor Nails. The episode delves into the accusations, Viljoen’s responses, and the ways these challenges have influenced her life and career.

Each episode will focus on a different public figure, with guests including radio presenter Ngizwe Mchunu, musician Bongani Fassie, traditional healer and DJ Gogo Skhothane, hip-hop artist Pitch Black Afro, media personality Bujy Bikwa, radio legend Linda Sibiya, and Pastor Mboro. With insights from journalists, activists, and legal experts, Unfollowed offers a well-rounded view of the complex dynamics at play in each story.

Produced by GOAT, the team behind award-winning reality series Life With Kelly Khumalo, the new season promises to bring viewers “deeper, more nuanced conversations,” according to executive producer Graeme Swanepoel. “Unfollowed pulls no punches in its portrayal of cancel culture. It offers an unflinching, raw look at the reality of the phenomenon and its victims,” he says.

Unfollowed Season 2 is set to challenge audiences to look beyond the headlines and understand the full impact of cancel culture on those in the public eye.
