The stage is set, the mic is ready, and the shots are loaded! Comedy Central’s Roast of Pearl Thusi promises to be the event of the year, airing on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) on 8 December 2024 at 21:00 CAT. A mix of comedy heavyweights, entertainment icons, and rising stars will take the stage to roast one of South Africa’s most beloved – and controversial – personalities, Pearl Thusi.
The latest additions to the Roast panel include TV and radio personality Phat Joe, platinum-selling singer-songwriter Zee Nxumalo, and R&B sensation Donald, joining the previously announced lineup of David Kau, Zodwa Wabantu, Randall Abrahams, Busiswa, and Farieda “Pharoahfi” Metsileng. But that’s not all! Comedy legends Rob van Vuuren and Tol Ass Mo, alongside award-winning actress Mam’ Lillian Dube, have also been unveiled as the final three panelists.
With such a powerhouse lineup, Pearl Thusi is in for an evening of relentless banter, stinging jabs, and side-splitting laughter.
Phat Joe, known for his candid personality, didn’t hold back:“The entertainment business is not for sissies. South Africans have a love-hate relationship with our stars. The higher you rise, the harder you fall – and believe me, people love seeing you take a tumble! I’m sorry, Pearl, I know too much, and I’m not holding anything back… I hope we can still be friends.”
Zee Nxumalo, undeterred by her youth, is eager to make her mark:“Don’t be fooled by my age – I intend to hold my own on stage among these icons and legends! Will there be any low blows during the #RoastofPearl? All I know is that it’s going to get really, really hot in the Roast kitchen – and I can’t wait to get stuck in and be part of the action.”
R&B star Donald is ready to switch from serenades to savage roasts:“I may be in the business of inspiring and uplifting through music, but I’m not going to hold anything back when it comes to sending up my fellow entertainment personalities. A lot of them have inflated egos and definitely need to be brought down a peg or two!”
Meanwhile, comedy veteran Rob van Vuuren is gearing up to bring his unique flair to the show:“This is not my first Roast rodeo, and I can tell you that things heat up pretty quickly on stage. I’m pumped to channel my chakras into firing the shots as well as receiving them during the #RoastofPearl!”
Tol Ass Mo, known for his razor-sharp wit, warns the audience to expect no mercy:“Nothing – and no one – is sacred in the fame game. I know Pearl is up to the task, but Roast audiences should be warned: we are not going to leave any sacred cows untoppled!”
Finally, acting legend Mam’ Lillian Dube is ready to school the younger stars:“I’ve seen a lot in my time, and I know about longevity in this industry. I’ve got where I am today through hard work and dedication, and I recognise those traits in Pearl as well. Having said that, these youngsters still have a lot to learn – and this gogo won’t shy away from giving them a royal tongue-lashing!”
With such an electrifying mix of personalities, the Comedy Central Roast of Pearl Thusi is bound to leave audiences in stitches. Mark your calendars and tune in for an unforgettable evening of comedy and chaos wen it airs on Comedy Central (DStv Channel 122) on 8 December 2024 at 9pm.
