This past week, US Magazine Essence presented its list of 2021 artists to watch: singers, songwriters, and musicians who are poised to have breakout moments in the very near future. Added to the list were South Africa's finest musicians Bongeziwe Mabandla, Black Coffee and Bongeziwe Mabandla all applauded for their musical genius among list of other international acts.
The popular magazine described Bongeziwe, as the “enigmatic spirit of African Soul,” this South African savant has steadily built a sound for himself that has crossed borders and waters with ease. While naming Elaine as the first independent female artist to ever reach No. 1 on both the national iTunes and Apple Music charts, all while studying law at the University of the Witwatersrand. Iconic DJ Black Coffee was acknowledged for his latest Subconsciously that scored 100 million streams, before It launched last Friday (5 February).
Other artists on the lists included, R&B singer and songwriters Arlo Parks, Peyton, gospel-infused Ian Isiah, Dutch-Sudanese hip-hop/R&B badass from the Netherlands Gaidaa and more.
